Sardine, duck duck goose & Simon Says

GREAT GAMES FOR RAINY DAYS
Here are three classic games for rainy days when the house starts feeling a little small.

  • Sardines − Choose one person to be the sardine. While the rest of the group closes their eyes and count to 50, the sardine finds a place to hide. When the group finishes counting, they start looking for the sardine. If someone finds the sardine, they must slip in and hide with the sardine without anyone else seeing. Gradually, everyone will disappear, until there is just one person left searching and everyone else is hiding together like a can of sardines! The first child to find the sardine gets to hide the next time around.
  • Duck duck goose − after choosing one person to be "it", the rest of the children sit down in a circle facing each other. The person who is "it" walks around the outside of the circle, tapping the tops of the others' heads and pronouncing them either a duck or a goose. When someone is proclaimed a goose, they must jump up and chase "it" around the circle, trying to touch that person before they sit down in the goose's spot. If the goose does not touch the "it" person in time, they become "it." If "it" is tagged before reaching the goose?s spot in the circle, they remain "it" and to try again.
  • Simon says − one child (or parent) is chosen to be Simon, and the others stand in a line. Simon then calls out an action for the others to follow, beginning with "Simon says". For example: "Simon says lift your right arm". If Simon calls out an action without first saying "Simon says", whoever followed it must sit down. The last one standing wins, and then gets to be Simon during the next round.
